<p>Lukunor was first sighted by Europeans by the Spanish expedition of <a href="/facts/%25C3%2581lvaro_de_Saavedra_Cer%25C3%25B3n/yUceC0XX">Álvaro de Saavedra</a> shortly after August 1528 in its first attempt to return to <a href="/facts/New_Spain/NYaDwcqK">New Spain</a>.<a class="footnote-ref" id="fnref:3" href="#fn:3"><sup>3</sup></a>
