<h2 id="biography">Biography</h2> <p>Pellegrino was born on May 5, 1953 to John and Jane Pellegrino.<a class="footnote-ref" id="fnref:2" href="#fn:2"><sup>2</sup></a> He grew up in Queens, then at age 9 the family moved to Rockville Centre in Nassau County. At 15, Pellegrino was diagnosed with cancer and a rare genetic disease, <a href="/facts/Ankylosing_spondylitis/tHgAlJNd">Ankylosing spondylitis</a>.<a class="footnote-ref" id="fnref:3" href="#fn:3"><sup>3</sup></a> </p><p>During the mid-1970s, Pellegrino earned bachelor's and master's degrees at <a href="/facts/Long_Island_University/BUj4Wh4C">Long Island University</a>. Pellegrino claimed to have received a PhD in 1982 from Victoria University of Wellington in New Zealand.
