The region plays an important role in <a href="/facts/Memory/zucwQIEX">memory</a> <a href="/facts/Encoding_(memory)/H08V1MhT">encoding</a> and <a href="/facts/Recall_(memory)/flxSh2qP">retrieval</a>. It has been involved in some cases of <a href="/facts/Hippocampal_sclerosis/wqGzqqPB">hippocampal sclerosis</a>.
