Democratic Party of Iranian Kurdistan

The Democratic Party of Iranian Kurdistan , also known as the Kurdish Democratic Party of Iran (KDPI), is an armed <a href="/facts/Left-wing_politics/JUcz1kvS">leftist</a> <a href="/facts/Separatist_movement/KubEMvMr">separatist movement</a> of <a href="/facts/Kurds_in_Iran/p3cvTGQJ">Kurds in Iran</a>, exiled in the <a href="/facts/Kurdistan_Region/zk6GP3bG">Kurdistan Region of Iraq</a> with branch offices in Europe. 
It is the oldest of Kurdish party in Iran fighting for Kurdish rights. It is banned and declared a <a href="/facts/List_of_designated_terrorist_groups/LmnuRFFL">terrorist organization</a> in <a href="/facts/Iran/24yukge8">Iran</a> and thus not able to operate openly. The group calls for either an independent <a href="/facts/Kurdistan/bRDraJ2f">Kurdish state</a> or the implemantation of a <a href="/facts/Federal_system/dNaFu2rM">federal system</a>.
Since 1979, KDPI has waged a persistent <a href="/facts/Guerrilla_warfare/IMWNg4bI">guerrilla war</a> against Iran. This included the<a href="/facts/1967_Kurdish_revolt_in_Iran/Na8LDdyo">1967 Kurdish revolt in Iran</a>, <a href="/facts/1979_Kurdish_rebellion_in_Iran/0CJWMaN7">1979–1989 Kurdish insurgency</a>, its <a href="/facts/KDPI_insurgency_(1989%25E2%2580%259396)/7yjwVv6s">1989–1996 insurgency</a> and the <a href="/facts/2016_West_Iran_clashes/xj64hU6b">recent clashes in 2016</a>.
