<p><i>Heterococcus</i> is a <a href="/facts/Genus/m8EFjSms">genus</a> of <a href="/facts/Yellow-green_algae/7AqyPEsl">yellow-green algae</a> (xanthophytes) in the family Heteropediaceae. It is the only xanthophyte genus known to form <a href="/facts/Lichen/lUrd6Sn7">lichens</a>. </p><p><i>Pirula</i> is regarded as a <a href="/facts/Synonym_(taxonomy)/BHLdox7E">synonym</a>. </p>
