Masdar City

Masdar City is an urban community in <a href="/facts/Abu_Dhabi_(emirate)/bB1ve7Ce">Abu Dhabi</a>, the capital of the <a href="/facts/United_Arab_Emirates/o1bEjgbR">United Arab Emirates</a>. It was built by <a href="/facts/Masdar/jFLQqwrT">Masdar</a>, a subsidiary of the state-owned <a href="/facts/Mubadala_Development_Company/AvFsjByn">Mubadala Investment Company</a>, with the majority of seed capital provided by the Government of Abu Dhabi. 
Masdar City aims to be a model for <a href="/facts/Sustainability/9oYH9mAs">sustainable urban living</a>, combining <a href="/facts/Renewable_energy/6Bu6IrpF">renewable energy</a>, <a href="/facts/Green_building/fG67vQCK">green building practices</a>, and advanced technology. Masdar City is designed to minimise its environmental impact with energy-efficient buildings, a reduced carbon footprint, and a focus on research and development in clean technologies. As a hub for sustainable innovation, the city hosts a range of international companies, startups, and research institutions dedicated to advancing sustainable practices across various industries.
As of 2023, Masdar City is home to approximately 15,000 residents and office commuters. The city is undergoing significant expansion, with numerous projects in development, including new offices, laboratories, and residential buildings designed to accommodate the increasing demand for sustainable urban spaces. As of 2016, it is expected to be completed by 2030.
