Impactites are considered <a href="/facts/Metamorphic_rock/JRp6dsCm">metamorphic rock</a>, because their <a href="/facts/Protolith/72uzWogN">source materials</a> were modified by the heat and pressure of the impact. On Earth, impactites consist primarily of modified terrestrial material, sometimes with pieces of the original meteorite. </p>
