<p><a href="/facts/Rum_(endonym)/ctEcYbjR">Rūm</a> millet (<a href="/facts/Ottoman_Turkish_language/z17YMfhT">Ottoman Turkish</a>: <i>millet-i Rûm</i>, <a href="/facts/Literal_translation/0cF1oFRh">lit.</a> 'Roman nation') was the name of the <a href="/facts/Eastern_Orthodox_Church/5n20Akh5">Eastern Orthodox Christian</a> community in the <a href="/facts/Ottoman_Empire/6QvfTRsg">Ottoman Empire</a>, and often <a href="/facts/Anatolia/vMkrLrPr">Anatolia</a> in particular. Despite being subordinated within the Ottoman political system, the community maintained a certain internal autonomy. </p>
