English examples of verbs of speaking include <a href="/facts/Communication/EGEkchsT"><i>say</i></a>, <i>utter</i>, <i>ask</i> and <i>rumble</i>. Because a verbum dicendi often introduces a quotation, it may <a href="/facts/Grammaticalization/Ya3HooHm">grammaticalize</a> into a <a href="/facts/Quotative/XWJTStpV">quotative</a>. </p><p>The plural of <i>verbum dicendi</i> is <i>verba dicendi</i>. </p>
