<p>Adnan bin Saidi (<a href="/facts/Jawi_alphabet/DdF2xzyM">Jawi</a>: عدنان بن سيدي; 14 August 1915 – 14 February 1942) was a Malayan <a href="/facts/Officer_(armed_forces)/FDFw2Bpd">military officer</a> of the <a href="/facts/1st_Malaya_Infantry_Brigade/WWtFSGQe">1st Infantry Brigade</a> under the <a href="/facts/Malaya_Command/rs5fXXdM">Malaya Command</a> in <a href="/facts/British_Malaya/SwMnjlFx">British-ruled Malaya</a>. In 1942, Adnan, then a <a href="/facts/Lieutenant/G9BbvD6s">lieutenant</a>, led his <a href="/facts/Platoon/DdNeljkg">platoon</a> to put up fierce resistance against the Japanese during the <a href="/facts/Battle_of_Pasir_Panjang/jQ63mdz8">Battle of Pasir Panjang</a> in <a href="/facts/Singapore/CQDkhUvD">Singapore</a>, and was ultimately killed in action. He is celebrated as a national hero in present-day Malaysia and Singapore. </p>
