On October 5, 1863, she undertook a partially successful attack on <a href="/facts/USS_New_Ironsides/gE538rS3">USS <i>New Ironsides</i></a> which was participating in the blockade of <a href="/facts/Charleston%2c_South_Carolina/dB8lmPF2">Charleston, South Carolina</a>. </p>
