Introduced in 1884 by the French mathematician <a href="/facts/Gabriel_Koenigs/7TmyfJ01">Gabriel Koenigs</a>, it gives a canonical representation as dilations of a <a href="/facts/Univalent_function/fQc4E6Ju">univalent holomorphic mapping</a>, or a <a href="/facts/Semigroup/rgSdk2kt">semigroup</a> of mappings, of the <a href="/facts/Unit_disk/phrUu7yC">unit disk</a> in the <a href="/facts/Complex_numbers/2w7mqI7e">complex numbers</a> into itself. </p>
