Platyctenids display a generally benthic lifestyle in contrast to most ctenophores being largely pelagic. Platyctenids display widely differing morphological characteristics from their pelagic counterparts, being highly flattened on their oral-aboral axis and having lost many key traits associated with the phylum. </p>
