It was developed in 1993 by Russian software engineer <a href="/facts/Eugene_Roshal/ySMp7CoT">Eugene Roshal</a> and the software is licensed by <i>win.rar GmbH</i>. The name <i>RAR</i> stands for <i>Roshal Archive</i>. </p>
