The group is found mainly in <a href="/facts/Antarctic/xPPVrxBE">Antarctic</a> and <a href="/facts/Subantarctic/vzlXL8Fp">Subantarctic</a> waters, with some species ranging north to southern <a href="/facts/Australia/qLHpbppq">Australia</a> and southern <a href="/facts/South_America/PhrFEMk7">South America</a>. Notothenioids constitute approximately 90% of the fish biomass in the <a href="/facts/Continental_shelf/dpgHAR4U">continental shelf</a> waters surrounding <a href="/facts/Antarctica/bEM5Lem5">Antarctica</a>. </p>
