It is named after the river <a href="/facts/Oise_(river)/uYjlkNgb">Oise</a>. Inhabitants of the department are called <i>Oisiens</i> (French: [wazjɛ̃]) or <i>Isariens</i>, after the <a href="/facts/Latin/pM3Kge85">Latin</a> name for the river, Isara. It had a population of 829,419 in 2019. </p>
