<p>The front end of line (FEOL) is the first portion of <a href="/facts/Fabrication_(semiconductor)/Jd23Mu1z">IC fabrication</a> where the individual components (<a href="/facts/Transistor/Bmr8zwL0">transistors</a>, <a href="/facts/Capacitor/hyowqv7n">capacitors</a>, <a href="/facts/Resistor/JrsGReM6">resistors</a>, etc.) are patterned in a <a href="/facts/Semiconductor/zFf3mGTE">semiconductor</a> substrate. FEOL generally covers everything up to (but not including) the deposition of metal <a href="/facts/Interconnects_(integrated_circuits)/dyLoHu9w">interconnect</a> layers. </p>
