An indentation style generally specifies a consistent number of <a href="/facts/Whitespace_character/Q5xRIaSz">whitespace characters</a> before each line of a block, so that the lines of code appear to be related, and dictates whether to use <a href="/facts/Space_(punctuation)/0Um7Qfkq">spaces</a> or <a href="/facts/Tab_character/gTyIhqBe">tabs</a> as the indentation character. </p>
