It is located approximately 20 kilometres (12 miles) northwest of the national capital <a href="/facts/Ljubljana/zwTrXoTb">Ljubljana</a>, acting as the seat of the <a href="/facts/City_Municipality_of_Kranj/XxVRaLoc">City Municipality of Kranj</a>. </p>
