It is a <a href="/facts/Genetic_disorder/hFqt2NLn">genetic disorder</a>, inherited in autosomal <a href="/facts/Recessive/DsvtPyQU">recessive</a> fashion due to a defect in the <a href="/facts/Autoimmune_regulator/jIlSI6sj"><i>AIRE</i> gene (autoimmune regulator)</a>, which is located on <a href="/facts/Chromosome_21_(human)/F1nQLrCp">chromosome 21</a> and normally confers <a href="/facts/Immune_tolerance/hvDqPHTP">immune tolerance</a>. </p>
