<p>Bandar bin Sultan Al Saud is a member of the <a href="/facts/House_of_Saud/9egk15WK">Saudi ruling family</a>, a grandson of <a href="/facts/Ibn_Saud/4Hmo3To7">King Abdulaziz</a>, military officer, and retired diplomat who served as Saudi Arabia's ambassador to the United States from 1983 to 2005. From 2005 to 2015, he served as <a href="/facts/National_Security_Council_(Saudi_Arabia)/NYFAMyjG">secretary general of the National Security Council</a> and was director general of the <a href="/facts/Al_Mukhabarat_Al_A%2527amah/RD9BG4K9">Saudi Intelligence Agency</a> from 2012 to 2014. From 2014 to 2015, he was <a href="/facts/Abdullah_of_Saudi_Arabia/xTKPBCVf">King Abdullah</a>'s special envoy. </p>
