It belongs to the family <a href="/facts/Microcotylidae/zQQgkoLn">Microcotylidae</a>. </p><p>It was first described from the gills of the namorado sandperch <i>Pseudopercis numida</i> and the Argentinian sandperch <i>Pseudopercis semifasciata</i> (<a href="/facts/Pinguipedidae/CGp2xDVj">Pinguipedidae</a>) off <a href="/facts/Brazil/QHkG46GL">Brazil</a>. </p>
