The 2018 Major League Baseball (MLB) draft began on June 4, assigning amateur players to teams based on the reverse order of the 2017 MLB season final standings, with compensation picks for unsigned players and lost free agents. The first 43 picks were broadcast by MLB Network, while the rest streamed on MLB.com. The Detroit Tigers secured the first overall pick after a tiebreaker and selected Casey Mize. Over 40 rounds, 1,214 players were drafted. On September 9, 2019, the Chicago Cubs promoted Nico Hoerner, the first player from this draft to reach MLB.
