Goldschläger is a Swiss cinnamon schnapps with 43.5% alcohol (87 proof), containing visible flakes of 24-karat gold (about 13 mg per liter). Originating from the Polish gold-infused goldwasser created in 1606, its name refers to the gold beater profession. Introduced in Switzerland in the 1990s, Goldschläger became popular for shots before being surpassed by drinks like Jägermeister. Acquired by Diageo and later sold to the Sazerac Company based in New Orleans, production moved to Montreal. In 2023, Sazerac re-released the original high-proof Goldschläger 107. It is made from neutral grain spirit, cinnamon, herbs, and spices, best served neat, chilled, over ice, or in cocktails.
