Naomi Swartzentruber
American author

Naomi Swartzentruber (born 1980) is an American author and social-media content creator whose 2023 self-published memoir, The Amazing Adventures of an Amish Stripper, recounts her departure from a conservative Amish upbringing, two decades as an exotic dancer, and her subsequent recovery from addiction. She shares reflections on Amish culture and sobriety with more than 400,000 followers on TikTok and Instagram.

Early life

Swartzentruber was born in 1980, and raised in the Swartzentruber Amish settlement in rural Michigan, one of the most restrictive Amish sub-groups.3 The ninth of twelve children (seven brothers and four sisters), she performed farm chores from early childhood and grew up without electricity, indoor plumbing, or telephones.4

At age seventeen, on 13 July 1997, she climbed out of a bedroom window and left the community after being caught sneaking out with non-Amish friends.5 People later quoted her recalling that she "wanted freedom and technology" and believed she would "go to hell" for pursuing them.6

Career

While supporting herself with fast-food work at Burger King,7 Swartzentruber was invited to a Minnesota strip club in 1999 and earned US$55 in tips during an impromptu amateur set, launching a 20-year career as an exotic dancer.8 She later told Jesse Watters of Fox News that performing provided an "unexpected sense of empowerment" despite religious guilt.9

By 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic and the birth of her daughter prompted her to retire from dancing and focus on writing.10 She self-published The Amazing Adventures of an Amish Stripper in July 2023,11 and the story was picked up by outlets including the Toronto Sun, which framed her journey as one "from God-fearing Amish to crowd-pleasing stripper".12

Social-media work and personal life

Posting under @Amishinspiration, Swartzentruber creates short videos on traditional Amish homemaking, natural cleaning products, and mental-health recovery.13 As of June 2025 she had more than 400,000 followers across platforms, according to Infobae.14 An iHeartMedia profile noted that she uses the channels to encourage others to carry on through challenges.15

Swartzentruber lives in Arizona with her partner, Nick Bauer, and their daughter, born in 2021.16 Despite theological differences, she maintains contact with her Amish parents, who "largely avoid discussing her past."17
