<p>The System Management Controller (SMC) is a subsystem of <a href="/facts/Intel/SMF0gJJX">Intel</a> and <a href="/facts/Apple_silicon/A8RgouDB">Apple silicon</a>-based <a href="/facts/Macintosh/8GhnXTK0">Macintosh</a> computers. It is similar in function to the older <a href="/facts/System_Management_Unit/n7YMJMFI">SMU</a> or <a href="/facts/Power_Management_Unit/DMzTzA5V">PMU</a> of PowerPC based Macintosh computers. </p>
