2009 NFL draft
74th annual meeting of National Football League franchises to select newly eligible players

The 2009 NFL draft, held at Radio City Music Hall in New York, was the 74th annual meeting of NFL teams to select new players. The draft featured shortened selection times and was televised by NFL Network and ESPN. The Detroit Lions, after an 0–16 season, selected Matthew Stafford as the first overall pick. Notably, two centersAlex Mack and Eric Wood—were picked in the first round for the first time since 1983. Although regarded as one of the worst drafts, it produced Ryan Succop, the first Mr. Irrelevant to win a Super Bowl. As of 2024, only Stafford and punter Thomas Morstead remain active from this class.
