Surab is the district headquarters of Surab District, which was founded on 1 August 2017, when it was carved out of Kalat District, in Pakistan's Balochistan province.
Surab District is famous for its apple and grape orchards.
It is located almost 212 Km from the Balochistan Capital and is somewhat closer to Afghanistan Border. The largest tribes in Surab District are Reki, Mirwanis, Rodenis, Muhammad Hassni, Harooni, Mullazai, Mardanshahi, Zehris, minor nichari and Mengal. Brahvi is the native language of the locals.

2025 Surab Attack
On May 30, 2025, the town of Surab in Balochistan, was subjected to a coordinated attack, mainly in the city bank, police station, and other government infrastructure, The attack is claimed by BLA an Insurgent group fighting for the separtion of Balochistan from Pakistan.
However, The Balochistan government claimed the attack was conducted by Indian proxies, due to the recent conflict with India. Contradictory to the claim, BLA is active in the region since mid-2000.
